Evening Prayer

O Lord, Who are from everlasting to everlasting. I turn my thoughts to You as the hours of darkness and sleep begin. I rejoice to know that all night I shall be under the unsleeping eye of One Who dwells in the eternal light. To Your care, O Father, I commend my body and soul. All day You have watched over me and Your companionship has filled my heart with peace. I know You will be with me thru this night.

Give me a sound and refreshing sleep; give safety from all dangers;
Give me freedom from restless dreams; let me control my thoughts if I'm awake;
Give me wisdom to remember that the night was made for sleeping, and not for harbouring anxious, fretful, or shameful thoughts.
Give me grace, if as I lie abed I think at all, to think upon Thee.
"My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise Thee with joyful lips; when I remember You upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches."
Ps 63:5,6

I lift to up to Your care also, O Father, my family and friends. Keep them safe body and soul, and be present in their hearts tonight as a Spirit of power and of joy and restfulness. I pray for our government officials, church leaders, teachers, employees and all people in our land, especially the poor, oppressed, unemployed, sick and homeless. They are all dear to You, thru Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
